Michael BurkettF. Michael "Mike" Burkett, Jr. is an attorney and Democratic politician in Boise, Idaho.

Mr. Burkett was born in Keosauqua, Iowa and grew up on a dairy farm. He was admitted to the United States Air Force Academy at the age of 17. Post-Academy, he had distinguished service at the United States Air Force Headquarters command in Washington, D.C., then with the Department of Defense at the Pentagon and Forrestal Complex in Washington, D.C. After military service, Mr. Burkett graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law and was admitted to the Bar in 1979.

Mr. Burkett also has a long and illustrative history in the Idaho Legislature. He first won election to the Idaho Senate in 1988, and served for a total of ten years. . Mr. Burkett's principal legislative experience involved his service on the Taxation Committee, education issues, and Senate Judiciary and Rules Committee. In 2002, Mr. Burkett returned to the Senate representing the North End of Boise and voluntarily left the Senate in 2008 to return full-time to his litigation law practice.

Mr. Burkett's practice areas include personal injury litigation, high conflict divorce and child custody, government relations, business, and military law.

Mr. Burkett successfully litigated before the United States Supreme Court in Project 80's, Inc., et. al v. City of Pocatello, et. al., including recovery of all costs and attorney fees for his clients which had accrued over six years of State and Federal litigation
